For every solar energy system, it is necessary to know the set-up basics. Before you go in-depth with how your home solar system works, you must first know the most indispensable pieces- the batteries. Requiring unadulterated and natural energy, while emitting minimal waste, solar batteries store energy obtained from the sun and release it as needed with the use of an inverter.
To ensure optimum performance, solar batteries are usually stored in battery banks which either use wet cells and sealed or gel cell batteries. There are different ways for maintaining each type depending on the temperature, set-up, location and air exposure required for the structure's system to work.
Power Tool Battery Charger
Most households use sealed solar batteries for their solar energy systems. But in most cases, these batteries are overcharged after a short period of time being connected to a solar charger. Most of these batteries tend to overpower the charger because their capability to store energy seems to be greater than the usual. While this seems to be a good thing, it actually dissolves the unused electrolytes despite being sealed. Due to this, the levels of electrolytes are lessened and cause the plates to warp as it oxidizes. This increases the possibility of an internal short-circuit and explosion of hydrogen gas which could be really harmful. This defeats the whole purpose of having a solar energy system at home.
Having said this, it is preferred to use wet cells rather than the sealed cells. In choosing the right solar batteries for your home solar energy system, you must choose one which will be able to tolerate environmental processes and the cycles just like your typical home appliance.
Wet cell solar batteries work well despite weather-changes and exposure as compared to gel cell batteries. For people who are also not familiar with battery set-ups, this is also a better choice. This type of solar batteries can endure beginner set-up mistakes without causing any chemical leak or explosions.
In the long run, wet cell solar batteries are the more environment-friendly solution. They don't leak as often as the gel ones and they are less prone to hydrogen emissions which could cause serious health and ecological damages.
Expense-wise, even though conventional, this type of solar batteries provides really low costs for small to medium structures. Compared to the sealed type, the life expectancy of these last from three to five years and can store more energy, providing a cost-effective alternative.
